Israel Institute of Technology to participate in Global Tilapia Summit

Israel Institute of Technology technician Mr. Ory Lahav will address the delegates on December 18.

The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture (RGCA), the research and development wing of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), will organise the India Tilapia Summit-2014 (ITS-2014) here on December 18.

 

The conference on Tilapia fish farming will be held at Gateway Hotel in the city. “ITS-2014 will provide a platform to aquaculture scientists, farmers, tilapia experts, industry practitioners, stakeholders, processors, field staff and officials of MPEDA and other departments to harvest Genetically Improved Farm Tilapia (GIFT),” said MPEDA Deputy Director (Aquaculture) S. Kandan.

 

“GIFT, considered as a common man’s fish, is a popular seafood commodity with good demand in the international market. The Ministry of Agriculture recently gave approval for responsible aquaculture of Tilapia in India,” Dr. Kandan added.

RGCA Coordinator Jaideep Kumar said leading Tilapia scientists from across the globe will discuss the latest trends in modern aquaculture production systems and trading of Tilapia at the global level.

 

World Food Prize winner and former Assistant Director-General of World Fish Centre M. Vijaya Gupta, Asian Institute of Technology Director (Aqua Centre) Ram Bhujel, aquaculture scientists Lind Curtis and Ruel Eguia, Urner chief market analyst Angel Rubio and Israel Institute of Technology technician Ory Lahav will address the delegates, Mr. Jaideep said.
