Israeli Ambassador to India lights the first Hannukah candle
18/12/2014
The celebrations were held at Mr. Carmon's residence ahead of the Indian MPs official visit to Israel.

Israeli Ambassador to India, Mr. Daniel Carmon hosted the 1st Hannukah candle lighting at his residence, in honor of Indian MPs who will travel to Israel soon, and with Ex Minister Yuli Tamir and colleagues from the Embassy.

Hannukkah commemorates the triumph of the Jews over the Greek rulers (164 BCE) - both the physical victory of the small Jewish nation against mighty Hellenic Empire and the spiritual victory of the Jewish faith against the Hellenism. Its sanctity derives from this spiritual aspect of the victory, and the miracle of the flask of oil, when a portion of sacramental olive oil meant to keep the Temple candelabrum lit for one day lasted for eight days, the time it took for the Temple to be rededicated.
