TiE to mentor India’s: Billion-dollar babies
20/12/2014
It will present India globally as a place where companies come to connect with mentors, potential customers and VCs with the promising startups.

“There are only two places in the world where billion dollar entrepreneurs exist; while 80 per cent come from the Silicon Valley, 10 per cent come from Israel and the remaining come from rest of the world in which India does not fit the bill,” Mr. said Venktesh Shukla, President, The Indus Entrepreneurs Silicon Valley.

To address this issue of lack of billion dollar entrepreneurs in the country which has in recent time witnessed a high surge in startups the Silicon Valley chapter of TiE has launched its Billion Dollar Babies programme for product based Indian startups to guide them to become a billion dollar firm.

The purpose of the programme, according to Mr Shukla, is to establish India globally as a place where globally successful companies come from and also to connect mentors, potential customers and VCs with the promising startups.

“Companies selected for the programme will get access to TiE Silicon Valley’s ecosystem, top executives along with being guided by experienced mentors, lawyers, HR processes and all the things which will accelerate the firms global presence,” he said before the launch of the programme in the city on Thursday.

The programme will select about 3-5 promising product startups, out of which three have already been shortlisted. However, they are still on the look out for other entrepreneurs and have kept the application open till end of this year.

One of the co-founders of the selected companies will be called to Silicon Valley for a period ranging from a minimum of six months to almost a year. The first class of the programme starts in January of 2015.
