Bharat Ratna Award winner Dr. CNR Rao visits Israel

Dr. Rao met the Indian students in Israel and spoke about the challenges before Indian science and emphasized the importance of pursuing science in India.

The Eminent Indian scientist and recipient of Bharat Ratna Award, Dr. CNR Rao is on a visit to Israel. The Embassy organized an interaction between Indian students in Israel and Dr. Rao on 11 January at Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.

 

 

Ambassador Mr. Jaideep Sarkar opened the event by welcoming Dr. Rao and recalling to the audience that he had been honoured with the prestigious Dan David Prize of Israel in 2005. He also emphasized the importance of science and education in India-Israel relations.

 

 

In a free flowing interaction, Dr. Rao spoke on the challenges before Indian science and emphasized the importance of pursuing science in India as he himself had done through his career. Dr. Rao said that much more investment was needed in Indian science, particularly by the private sector.   

 

 

He said that there were world class research institutions in India but that many more were needed given the country’s size and potential. He wished the students well in their careers and urged them to look for opportunities and challenges in science in India after they had completed studies in Israel.
