Showcasing Israeli Technologies in Agriculture for India through NABARD Workshops
Embassy of Israel, in collaboration with the Reginal offices of NABARD, are conducting workshops pan India to showcase sustainable agriculture

With the world’s population expected to grow from 7 billion today to 9 billion by 2050, the need for improved agricultural productivity has never been greater. One of the most obvious ways to enhance productivity is through the stimulation of innovation in agricultural and food technologies – from breeding new crop varieties, to sustainable crop-protection and post-harvest technologies, livestock health, feed solutions, aquaculture, soil-less agriculture, and on to irrigation technologies and precision agriculture.

Established in 1982, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is an apex development bank in India with branches all over the country. NABARD has undertaken many initiatives for promoting sustainable agriculture. The Regional Offices, CBOs, PIAs have also innovated locally depending on the local requirements. However, this vast knowledge base is not always tapped for sharing and dissemination in a systematic way. Outside NABARD the successful experiments which Indo Israel Joint cooperation projects in various states are presenting excellent knowledge models on sustainable agriculture practices. One of the mandates of Economic and Trade Department, Embassy of Israel in New Delhi has been to facilitate their replication.

With this objective, Embassy of Israel, in collaboration with the Reginal offices of NABARD are conducting workshops pan India to showcase how sustainable agriculture practices have impacted and can impact the livelihoods of the poor. The workshops also intends to develop a strategy and action plan for furthering the agenda of sustainable agriculture (including crop husbandry, animal husbandry, fisheries, integrated models/ farming systems etc.).

Workshops in Bihar, Punjab and Himachal through the regional offices of NABARD has already been conducted delivering successful impact. Each workshop was hosted by NABARD with the participation of Israeli experts and agronomists, in different agriculture arenas like protected cultivation, micro-irrigation, Drips, Plasticulture, Dairies and so on. Israeli companies like Netafim, Top Greenhouses, SCR Diry, Rivulis, Biobee and Mapal has been instrumental in sharing the know how among participant farmers in the respective workshop.

We believe NABARD is excellent organization highly relevant for any extension of governmental or corporate operations in Agriculture farm to form chain with linkages from top to bottom and can act as a linking channel for bringing Israeli innovations in Agriculture sector to Indian soils. Within this framework, we wish to continue our drive to share best practices and knowhow, and provide capacity building through professional training programs to be conducted in other states in India through NABARD.
