IFS Pavan Kapoor is India’s new ambassador to Israel

Kapoor has served in different capacities in the Indian Missions in Moscow, Kyiv, London and Geneva apart from serving in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office. He will replace Jaideep Sarkar.

Pavan Kapoor, a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, was named as India’s new ambassador to Israel.

“Pavan Kapoor (lFS: 1990), presently high commissioner of India in Maputo, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Israel,” the external affairs ministry said in a statement.

Kapoor will replace Jaideep Sarkar.

The appointment assumes significance as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit India this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit Israel following Netanyahu’s visit.

Kapoor has served in different capacities in the Indian Missions in Moscow, Kyiv, London and Geneva apart from serving in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office during his diplomatic career.

He has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad and a Masters in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics.

He has also done a stint at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London as Political Adviser for Asia and Europe.
