Keren Kayemet le Israel (KKL) and the Jewish National Fund (JNF), together with the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Indian National Council for Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Public Leadership, held a side event at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP19). The event was titled: Sustainable Adaptation Policies: Local Solutions for Global Problems; Israeli and Indian experiences.

The event was an overwhelming success.  All of the participants stayed throughout the hour- and-a- half lecture series.  "There were more questions than we could take", said KKL-JNF's International Projects, Conferences and Events Coordinator, Karine Bolton, "Many of the questions were directed towards KKL-JNF.  The overwhelming message was the extent to which Israel and KKL-JNF can share its knowledge in water, dryland forestry and adaptation policies.”

The event inspired a number of ideas from participants, for example, analyzing the costs and benefits of planting trees both economically and CO2 wise.

Event participants hailed from all over the world, including the USA, India, China, Taiwan, the Congo, Rwanda, Italy and Pakistan. Organizations such as NASA were also represented at the event.  "Everyone was delighted, and we have been approached regarding signing agreements with different institutions," concluded Karine Bolton.
