22/05/2014
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amongst the first to wish the BJP leader Modi, on his electoral success; Modi has reportedly assured Israel that he will be the first Indian premier to visit Jerusalem

Netanyahu told his cabinet, according to the Israeli media, that Modi too had expressed the “desire to deepen and develop economic ties with the State of Israel.

Netanyahu’s statement falls in line with Israel’s efforts to increase bilateral trade and cooperation with Asian countries, focussing specifically on India, China, and Japan. India, which is the second largest Asian economic partner of Israel, is the Jewish state’s largest military equipment customer and its second largest military partner after Russia.

According to writer Seth Lipsky, Editor of The New York Sun and also earlier foreign editor with The Wall Street Journal, wrote that “in addition to all the other hopes awakened by the landslide victory of India’s Narendra Modi, there is the prospect that he will emerge as the most pro-Israel premier in India’s history.
