32% more American tourists in May 2014 as compared to last year

There has been a surge in the number of tourist arrivals in Israel after the last month’s papal visit, data suggests. Mr. Haim Gutin, Consul and Israel Tourism Commissioner, North and South America, said, “A record-breaking 32% more Americans arrived in Israel in May 2014 than in May 2013. An increase of 32% is staggering–it’s the largest monthly increase in U.S. tourism to Israel that I can recall.”

In total, American tourists’ visit in Israel increased by 14% for the five-month period, January-May in 2014. “An increase of these proportions is proof positive that the Ministry of Tourism’s U.S. promotional efforts in terms of public relations, marketing, social media and advertising are succeeding,” he added.

On the global front, Israel Tourism officials claimed that the worldwide tourism to Israel was up 17% in May 2014 over May 2013. Central Bureau of Statistics recorded 382,000 visitors entered Israel this May, while 1.5 million visited between January and May this year.

Israel remains a popular destination for tourists, entertainers, researchers and diplomats alike.
