Bangalore to host Israeli film festival in July

The festival is meant to showcase the similarities between Israeli and Indian art and life. ‘Turn Left at the End of the World’, is most successful Israeli film about an Indian family, which will be aired at the beginning of the festival.

In all nine Israeli films will entertain the movie buffs during the first ever Israeli Film Festival organized by the Consulate General of Israel, in partnership with Bangalore Cultural Partners, to be held in the city from July 3 to 31.

Giving details about the Festival, Mr Menahem Kanafi, the Consul General of Israel in Bangalore said, "The idea behind such a festival was to expose the various facets of life in Israel and to point out universal connections between Israeli and Indian art and life. It is a privilege to screen Israeli films in a country like India which is one of the world's leading film producers."

The inaugural film 'Turn Left at the End of the World', the most successful Israeli film of all times in the cinemas (4,00,000 viewers), is bound to stir the hearts of many as it unfolds the story of an Indian family who migrated to Israel in the late sixties and their trials and tribulations while dealing with the Moroccan community in their new village. Mr. Avi Nesher directed this film.

The Festival will feature some of the best of Israeli cinema, including the 2011 Oscar nominee in the Best Foreign Film Category 'Footnote'.

The films, to be screened at Suchitra Film Society, Alliance Francaise, Bangalore International Centre and Shanti Road Studio, will have 35 screenings in total. The nine chosen films have been produced in the last ten years reflecting various facets of Israeli life.
